Cotswolds Prairie Garden

This was the second project we had designed for our clients; we had previously created a multi-level garden for their Notting Hill townhouse.

For this young family’s country retreat we redesigned the mature traditional garden to reflect their interests in a landscape that supports local wildlife and promotes biodiversity. We used pollinator friendly plants designed to be low maintenance and to be self-sustaining. We created a wide Purbeck stone and oak sett avenue leading from the house to the village Churchyard. The avenue was enhanced with an oak pergola covered in climbing roses and wisteria, to provide shade and interest.

A loveseat sits atop a long grass and wildflower mound overlooking the swimming pool area.

Alongside the swimming pool we planted large beds full of perennials and grasses, and 4 Corten steel water troughs which the local bird and insect life make full use of.

An existing large lime tree was hung with a personalised oak swing, and we placed a hardwood platform around the tree base, for lounging and reading on during long summer days.
