Highbury L-Shaped Garden
This unusual shaped plot in Highbury presented various challenges, we needed to incorporate parking for a car, allow for multiple level changes, and create a sense of privacy for our clients.
For the design we used a number of trees to create privacy, as the garden was overlooked by high houses at the rear. We created a pleached hornbeam screen to surround the dining area near the house. Leading from the front door we added slender crabapples, which get covered in spring blossom and then red apples in the autumn. These acted as a secondary ‘green screen’ to draw your eye away from the car parking space that sat alongside this area.
For the planting we stuck to pretty, loose planting, exemplified in a palette of pinks whites and soft purples. With the addition of lots of grasses, movement ripples through the beds and creates a meadow feeling in an inner city space.
