Queens Park Family Garden
This garden was completely overgrown when we first saw it. The family has just renovated the house, digging out their basement. The family had 2 young children and a new puppy, they loved growing plants and wanted to grow their own vegetables. The challenge was to create a garden that accommodated a play area for the children, lawn space, a dining area as well as vegetable beds and a cold frame.
We created storage with a custom built shed adjacent to the house, (and so out of sight from inside the house) and then broke the garden up into distinct areas for each of the clients needs. To lighten up the walls, we used weather boarding painted a light neutral and added in mirrors to give a sense of light and space. For the planting we used mainly edibles and herbs, as well as espaliered Apple and Fig trees for the family to harvest, and finally for the children we even put in a pirate ship in which to navigate the high seas of Queens Park!
